85 Years of White Rock UMC

A little history from White Rock UMC’s fiftieth anniversary celebration:
The White Rock Methodist Church was officially organized on the afternoon of September 17, 1939 with Dr. Harry S. DeVore presiding as District Superintendent. Rev. Leland C. Spurrier was appointed as pastor. At that organizational meeting 55 members were received. During the months that followed, a great deal of work was accomplished by pastor and people working together. By August 1940 they had built the stone building which came to be known as the Little Chapel Church, where the first service was held on August 18, 1940.

The first service held in our present sanctuary was on June 14, 1957. The church membership had grown to approximately thirteen hundred members. During the sixties our church school space was expanded, and a pipe organ was installed.

For years it had been the dream of many in the congregation to have a chapel and activities building. This dream was realized in October 1976 with the dedication of the Minga Family Center.
