Do Character Traits, Values, and Morals Matter in our Modern Society?

Older generations may remember the “Moral Majority” of the 1980s. Younger generations may remember the “Character Counts!” curriculums of the 1990s and even in later years. Currently, there are a variety of Character Education programs taught in schools. One internet source stated that the 7 Pillars of Character Education are: Kindness, Respect, Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. That sounds great! But…
Do we see these traits widely exhibited in our American culture? We can all name examples of the roots of the problem. More importantly, we need to have conversations to find solutions.

Thoughts to Ponder & Discuss with family, friends, and church classes/groups.  There is a list of character traits here.

-Discuss your opinions about character traits, values, and morals using the attached list.
Feel free to add adjectives and nouns to the list.
-What are your best traits? What do you think are the most important traits for our leaders
and for society? -What traits do you see lacking in the U.S.?
-What can we do to improve this issue as individuals, communities, and our country?
