Dallas Area Interfaith

Dallas Area Interfaith (DAI) had an event this past Tuesday night called Reimagine Dallas that a few members of JAG were able to attend together. The room was electric with the energy to change Dallas for good in three specific areas: housing affordability, early childhood education, and immigration. Speakers from many institutions, including churches, synagogues and schools called on our local policy makers to commit to specific change. Several Dallas City Councilmembers and Dallas County Commissioners were present and agreed to specifically work on the following: land use reform, creating a voter approved children's fund that would make childcare affordable throughout Dallas county, and standing in solidarity with our immigrant friends in any way we can.

The most exciting part of the evening was seeing almost one thousand people gather in one place to work together for a common cause. Baptists sat next to Catholics who sat next to Jews who sat next to Unitarians. As one of the speaker's said last night, "We are better together." And when we can get that many people mobilized on issues we care about, that is definitely true.

If you care about these issues, consider joining WRUMC's Justice Advocacy Group as we partner with DAI to combat many issues in our city and county.

Next Steps

  1. If you would like to get more involved, you can email JAG at jag@wrumc.org to get more information.
  2. If you are interested in the mission of DAI and want to learn more, let us know! We will probably have a few JAG members attending DAI 101 on December 11th from 7pm to 8:30pm at St Paul Baptist Church @ 1600 Pear St. in Dallas.
