Justice Advocacy Group Update
As Pastor Kerry has told you, multiple UMC churches have a committee called the Church and Society group and WRUMC has created our own. We have named the WRUMC group the “Justice Advocacy Group” which we will refer to as JAG. The JAG Committee will meet once a month in the library after the church service. The meeting is open to anyone who is interested in helping.
A vast network of UMC leaders, including 52 writing teams and over 4,000 readers and reviewers, completed the UMC Revised Social Principles in 2020, adopted in 2024 and came into effect on January 1, 2025. The Social Principles consist of four Communities: Creation, Political, Economic, and Social. JAG has utilized the information from the Social Principles to develop the vision for WRUMC.
JAG hopes to have a blog twice a month in the WRUMC newsletter with updated information about our progress. We also want to provide sources for you to research the history of various monthly themes, to provide names of online advocacy groups, and to provide current local opportunities to help others during this fast-changing time for America and the world.
In closing, we ask that you read James 2:14-26.
(17: So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.)
(26: For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.)
WRUMC is certainly not a dead church!
Blessings,
JAG
