Call to Worship
This is the day that God has made!
Let us rejoice and be glad!
For some of us, Mother’s Day is joyful – flowers sent from our out-of-town children, lunch at our favorite restaurant, fun conversation about things that matter, with people who matter.
For some of us, Mother’s Day is painful – the memories of moms and grandmas who have passed away, the regret of estrangement, the envy of families who seem so happy when we’re so… not.
In the joy and the pain, we show up for each other.
For some of us, today is a day of expectation and excitement – becoming a mom for the first time, or godmother, or step-parent, or aunt.
For some of us, today is just another day without – without a child who died before their time, without a mother who should have been there but couldn’t or wouldn’t; without the partner or child we had longed for.
In the joy and the pain, we show up for each other.
For some of us, this is a day in the in-between – sending kids off to college; relocating away from family because of work; finding our way as a single parent.
For all of us – parents and children, trans and cis, fur-baby-parents, teachers, mentors, and friends – this is a holy and precious day that God has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad!
*Passing of the Peace
*Hymn #384 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
Love divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of Heav'n to Earth come down,
Fix in us thy humble dwelling,
All thy faithful mercies crown;
Jesus, thou art all compassion,
Pure, unbounded love thou art;
Visit us with thy salvation,
Enter ev'ry trembling heart.
Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit
Into ev'ry troubled breast;
Let us all in thee inherit,
Let us find thy promised rest;
Take away our love of sinning;
Alpha and Omega be;
End of faith as its beginning,
Set our hearts at liberty.
Come, Almighty to deliver;
Let us all thy grace receive;
Suddenly return, and never,
Never more thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve thee as thy host above,
Pray, and praise thee without ceasing,
Glory in thy perfect love.
Finish, then, thy new creation;
Pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see thy great salvation
Perfectly restored in thee;
Changed from glory into glory
Till in Heav'n we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before thee,
Lost in wonder, love, and praise!
*Statement of Faith
We are children of God.
We have been water-washed and Spirit-filled.
We're dead to sin and alive in Christ.
We're not trapped by the law; we live in grace.
Our hearts are set on righteousness.
Our minds are fixed on life and peace.
Suffering is nothing, compared to the glory to come. We're heirs to the life Christ is bringing!
We are children of God! Amen!
Baptism & Joining
Scripture Reading: Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me
all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house
of the LORD for ever.
For the Word of God in scripture, for the Word of God among us, and for the Word of God within us, thanks be to God!
Hymn God of the Women
God of the women who answered your call, Trusting your promises, giving their all, Women like Sarah and Hannah and Ruth — Give us their courage to live in your truth.
God of the women who walked Jesus' Way, Giving their resources, learning to pray, Mary, Joanna, Susanna, and more — May we give freely as they did before.
God of the women long put to the test, Left out of stories, forgotten, oppressed, Quietly asking: "Who smiled at my birth?" — In Jesus' dying you show us our worth.
God of the women who ran from the tomb, Prayed with the others in that upper room, Then felt your Spirit on Pentecost Day — May we so gladly proclaim you today.
O God of Phoebe and ministers all, May we be joyful in answering your call. Give us the strength of your Spirit so near That we may share in your ministry here.
Pastoral Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
